NURSING HORSES AT PEREA, THESSALONIKI

In the last month, an article was published online about 16 horses in the area of Peraia Thessaloniki, which their owner cannot afford to take care of.
So we went with members of the Greek Eco Project, having with us apples and carrots, to see up close the horses and their living conditions .....

With the little knowledge we have about these majestic animals, what we saw was in a not fenced, unguarded area, next to a road full of cars :
🐴 Some young birds
🐴 All the horses had normal weight
🐴 8 of them tied in the sun & 8 freely in a large area of the Municipality along with stray dogs. Nowhere was there a shelter to protect themselves from the weather.
🐴 Not enough water
🐴 We don't know if they had eaten anything else besides weed from the field.
🐴 They were in a very bad condition
🐴 Some of them had skin problems
🐴 But most importantly, their hooves were completely frothy. We've been informed that the hooves on the horses are A and Z. When not regularly cared for they can get endocychitis from constant humidity and drought, which at an advanced stage causes death.
After several attempts to contact equine protection organisations, as well as to find out who they belong to or even to contact the lady who uploaded the article on horses, unfortunately we did not succeed. If you have any information about these horses, please contact us to help as much as we can.
