A FEW WORDS ABOUT "BLUE HALKIDIKI"
Το Blue Halkidiki is an initiative of the Greek Eco Project and its experienced team of divers. It began in 2021 with a dual purpose:
the retrieval and removal of waste from the seabed and shores of Halkidiki through coastal and underwater clean-up operations, as well as the education, awareness, and mobilization of local communities on environmental issues.
In 2023 alone over 8 tons of waste were removed from the seabed and coastlines of Halkidiki,and more than 18,000 cigarette butts were collected from the beach of Marmaras.
At the same time, samples are being collected to study the region’s biodiversity and to assess the impact of the Blue Halkidiki initiative on the Posidonia seagrass meadows of the Toroneos Gulf. The study is being conducted in collaboration with the Hellenic agriculture organisation -Dimitra, Fisheries Research Institute (INALE) and is being promoted nationwide through the social media channels of the Greek Eco Project.
Of course, the presence of photographer Nikolas Samaras is also important, as he captures the seabed and highlights to the wider public the state of the seas and the activities of the volunteers of the Greek Eco Project.

Raising awareness and informing the world about marine pollution is the most important purpose for which we organize and voluntarily participate in this great effort.
However, motivation is the result of proper information and awareness, because to help the planet, practical actions are needed.
BLUE HALKIDIKI, however, has another very strong goal, the promotion of Halkidiki as a destination of special ecological interest.
Of course, through these actions, a valuable opportunity is created for researching the seabed of Halkidiki, mapping it and getting to know the marine life of the Toroneos gulf and what kind of finds and waste are found on the seabed and on the coast.
