PLATE - Participatory Learning through Art for Transformation & Ecology

PLATE is a participatory public art project in Thessaloniki that connects creativity with environmental awareness and food sustainability.

Through a series of open, hands-on workshops, participants learn how to transform plastic waste into creative materials and artworks. Using recycled plastic and mosaic techniques, and working alongside two artists, creatives, students and members of the local community come together to collaborate and co-create a collective artwork that highlights the importance of responsible consumption, recycling and the circular economy.

The process will culminate in late October with an open public artistic event, where everyone is invited to take part in the creation and installation of a permanent mosaic on the exterior wall of a school. In this way, an everyday urban space is transformed into a place of artistic expression, environmental awareness and collective creation.

PLATE shows how art can become a tool for change, bringing people together and transforming something that would otherwise be considered waste into creativity, public space into a place of connection, and environmental knowledge into collective action.
